Black and White stripes have been used as shark prevention by different tribes for many years and by modern divers since the 1960s. Pilot fish swim besides sharks and are not seen as food. Sharks avoid Black and White striped sea snakes because of their venom.

It's all about visibility. You want sharks to see you and realize you are not food. Splashing around or surfing in the shore, your feet and hands look like injured baitfish, which are easy targets. The stirred-up sand in the water makes it harder for sharks to see you, so you want to change that and look like something they want to avoid, like a sea snake.

I had these made to offer a less expensive alternative to the very expensive other products. Each pack has 2 sleeves. If you have 2 children, buy 1 pack and put 1 on each child. One is better than none, but maximum stripes is best.

These are also nice with the extreme heat we have been having. As they dry, they cool your skin, and they also provide some sun protection.
